Mercari Fees in 2026: One 10% Fee, With a Shipping Twist

Mercari simplified its fees in 2025. There's now one 10% selling fee and no separate processing fee. The twist is that the 10% also applies to shipping the buyer pays, which changes how you should price.

The short answer

On listings created or updated on or after 6 January 2025, Mercari charges:

Sell a $40 item where the buyer pays $6 shipping and the fee is $4.60 (10% of $46). After the $6 label, you keep $35.40.

Old listings vs new listings

The new fee only applies to listings created or updated on or after 6 January 2025. If you have very old listings you haven't touched since then, they stay on the old structure until you edit them. Worth knowing if a fee on an old listing looks different from what you expected.

Buyer pays shipping or free shipping: which earns more?

Because the 10% applies to buyer-paid shipping, people assume free shipping is cheaper. Let's check with a $6 label.

SetupMercari feeLabel you payYou keep
$40 item, buyer pays $6 shipping$4.60$6.00$35.40
$40 item, free shipping$4.00$6.00$30.00
$46 item, free shipping$4.60$6.00$35.40

So free shipping at the same price leaves you about $5.40 worse off. Free shipping with the label cost built into the price ($46) works out exactly the same as buyer-pays. Pick whichever looks better to buyers in your category. The fee is the same either way.

Getting paid: Instant Pay vs direct deposit

On a single small sale, $3 is a lot. A $15 sale with Instant Pay costs $4.50 in total, nearly a third of the price, against $1.50 if you wait for a free deposit. If you use Instant Pay, cash out several sales at once.
